About this product

b.box Training Cup

A clever stepping stone towards open-cup drinking – giving little ones the freedom to sip from a rim, with a little more control (and hopefully a little less mess!).

Learning to drink from an open cup takes practice. Little ones need to work out how far to tip the cup, how quickly the liquid will arrive and when to stop – all while coordinating their hands, lips and mouth.

The b.box Training Cup is designed to make that learning process a little easier.

Instead of drinking through a traditional spout, the clever lid funnels liquid towards the rim, allowing your child to practise free-flow drinking in a way that more closely resembles drinking from an open cup.

There’s even a small window in the lid, allowing little ones to see the liquid as it moves towards them and begin learning just how far they need to tip.

Why we love it

Because learning to drink from a cup is a skill – and skills need opportunities to practise.

We love that the b.box Training Cup doesn’t rely on a traditional spout. Instead, your little one drinks from the rim while the lid helps control how the liquid gets there.

That means they can start practising some of the skills involved in open-cup drinking, while having a little more support along the way.

The viewing window is another thoughtful detail. Being able to see the liquid approaching gives children an extra cue to help them work out how much to tilt the cup.

And because the base works with other b.box lids, you can change the drinking top as your child’s skills and needs change.

Great for

  • Babies, toddlers and children learning to drink from a cup

  • Children who benefit from being able to see the liquid approaching the rim
  • Developing the coordination needed to hold, tilt and drink from a cup
  • Families looking for a stepping stone between enclosed drinking cups and an open cup
  • Everyday mealtimes and drinking practice

How does it work?

The training lid is designed to funnel liquid towards the drinking rim.

Your child still needs to pick up and tilt the cup to drink, but the lid provides more control than a completely open cup.

As the cup tilts, the water window lets them see the liquid moving towards the rim, giving them visual feedback about when their drink is about to arrive.

Over time, this can help little ones learn the relationship between how much they tilt their cup and how quickly the liquid reaches their mouth.

A feeding therapist’s note

Open-cup drinking looks simple when you already know how to do it – but there’s actually quite a lot for a little learner to coordinate.

They need to hold the cup, bring it accurately towards their mouth, create a seal at the rim, gradually tilt it and then respond when the liquid arrives.

Tip too little and nothing happens. Tip too far and suddenly there’s a lot to manage!

That’s what I like about the b.box Training Cup. It gives children an opportunity to practise drinking from a rim and controlling the tilt of their cup, but with a little more support than going straight to a completely open cup.

I particularly like the viewing window because it gives children another piece of information. They can see the liquid, even mildly thick fluids, approaching rather than having to rely entirely on feeling when it reaches their mouth.

It’s not about rushing children through drinking stages – it’s about giving them plenty of opportunities to practise the next skill.

Grows with their skills

The cup base is compatible with b.box’s interchangeable drinking lids, including their spout, sippy and training options.

This means you can use the same base with different lids depending on your child’s current drinking skills and needs.

Important

Children develop drinking skills at different rates. Always supervise young children while drinking and choose cups and liquids appropriate for their individual abilities.

If your child has dysphagia (swallowing difficulties), known or suspected aspiration, respiratory compromise or has been provided with specific recommendations regarding drinking equipment or liquid consistency, follow the advice of their treating speech pathologist or other appropriately qualified health professional.
