KiddiKutter Non-Slip Silicone Cutting Board

A steady little workspace for big kitchen adventures – designed to help children get hands-on with food preparation.

Chop, slice, explore and create.

The KiddiKutter Non-Slip Silicone Cutting Board gives little chefs their own practical food-preparation space, with a non-slip silicone surface designed to stay more securely in place while they work.

Pair it with a KiddiKutter knife and children can get involved in preparing fruit, vegetables and other foods – building independence and learning practical kitchen skills along the way.

And from a feeding perspective? We love that food preparation creates opportunities to interact with food without any pressure to eat it.

Why we love it

Because helping prepare food is food exploration too.

For a child who is still learning about a food, sitting down at the table and being expected to taste it can feel like a very big step.

Preparing food gives us another way in.

Wash the strawberry. Hold the cucumber. Cut the banana. Notice the seeds inside the capsicum. Smell the orange after it’s been sliced.

Children can learn an enormous amount about food before it ever reaches their mouth.

The non-slip design is also a practical win. Keeping the work surface more stable means children can concentrate on what their hands are doing rather than chasing a cutting board around the bench.

Food preparation is food exploration

We often think exposure to a new food means putting it on a child’s plate.

But there are so many other ways to get to know food.

A child might help choose it, wash it, peel it, cut it, smell it, move it into a bowl or serve it to somebody else.

Each experience gives them an opportunity to learn something about that food – without requiring them to take a bite.

For children who are selective with food, helping in the kitchen can be a practical way to create these experiences as part of everyday family life.

Designed to stay put

Learning to cut food requires plenty of coordination already, so a cutting board sliding around underneath the food isn’t particularly helpful.

The silicone design provides a non-slip work surface, helping keep the board more stable during food preparation.

A grooved edge also helps catch juices and little spills – handy when your mini chef is working with juicy fruit and vegetables.

A feeding therapist’s note

Getting children involved in food preparation is one of my favourite ways to explore food away from the pressure of the dinner table.

A child doesn’t have to eat the cucumber for cutting the cucumber to be worthwhile.

They might touch it. Notice that it’s wet inside. Smell it after it’s cut. Discover the seeds in the middle. Compare a thick slice with a thin one. Or simply cut it up and put it on somebody else’s plate.

They’re still learning about that food.

I particularly like giving children real, purposeful jobs in the kitchen rather than making every interaction with food into a therapy activity.

Preparing afternoon tea, chopping something for the family salad or helping make a fruit platter gives food exploration a natural purpose.

And if they decide to have a taste along the way? Great.

If they don’t? They’ve still had a valuable experience with food.
