About this product
Pigeon Baby Training Toothbrush Set – Steps 1, 2 & 3
From first little gums to a mouthful of milk teeth – three toothbrushes for the changing stages of early oral care.
The Pigeon Baby Training Toothbrush Set brings together all three stages of Pigeon’s training toothbrush range in one convenient pack.
Starting with a soft rubber training brush for early mouthing and gum exploration, the set gradually introduces brushing movements and a more conventional bristled toothbrush as your child’s teeth emerge and their skills develop.
Each brush has a different purpose, giving families a practical way to introduce oral care, encourage participation and support the transition towards regular toothbrushing.
With all three brushes included, you’ll have the next option ready when your little one needs it.
Why we love it
A baby’s oral-care needs change considerably over the first few years.
Early on, they may simply be exploring what a toothbrush feels like in their mouth.
As teeth begin to appear, brushing becomes an increasingly important part of daily hygiene. And as toddlers grow, they often want to take a more active role in holding and moving the brush themselves.
We like that this set recognises those differences.
Rather than expecting one brush to do everything, each stage has a design suited to a different part of the journey.
It’s also a convenient option for families who want the full range without purchasing each toothbrush separately.

Three brushes, three different purposes
Step 1 – Getting to know a toothbrush
The first stage focuses on holding, mouthing and exploring.
With a wide, easy-grip handle and a soft rubber head, Step 1 gives babies an opportunity to become familiar with the shape and feel of a toothbrush.
It’s designed for early gum exploration and introducing the idea of having a brush in the mouth.
Step 2 – Exploring brushing movements
Step 2 introduces a different brushing surface.
Its soft elastomer bristles are designed for gentle contact with emerging teeth and gums, while the easy-to-hold shape allows little ones to begin exploring brushing movements.
This stage helps bridge the gap between simply mouthing a training brush and participating in more purposeful brushing.
Step 3 – Towards a regular toothbrush
Step 3 features a conventional toothbrush-style head with soft, rounded bristles.
Designed for children with most of their milk teeth, it shifts the focus towards cleaning tooth surfaces as part of a regular oral-care routine.
It can be used with age-appropriate toothpaste according to dental recommendations.
Do children need to follow the stages exactly?
Not necessarily.
The three brushes provide different designs for changing oral-care needs, but they aren’t milestones that every child must complete in a particular order or by a particular birthday.
Some babies may enjoy exploring a training brush for a long time. Others may be ready to participate in conventional brushing sooner.
And importantly, exploring a training brush is not the same as thoroughly cleaning teeth.
Once the first tooth appears, children need effective caregiver-assisted brushing, regardless of which training stage they’re interested in using.
The training brushes can be part of that routine, but they shouldn’t delay appropriate dental care.
A feeding therapist’s note
I like thinking about early toothbrushing in two parts.
The first is helping a child become familiar with the experience – the feeling of a brush, the movement around the mouth and the routine of brushing.
The second is actually cleaning their teeth effectively.
Those goals overlap, but they’re not quite the same thing.
What I like about this set is that it gives families a few different tools for encouraging participation as their child grows.
A baby might begin by holding and mouthing the Step 1 brush. Later, they might explore the soft bristles of Step 2. Eventually, Step 3 offers a more conventional brushing experience.
But I wouldn’t treat those stages as a checklist.
If a child loves exploring their training brush, wonderful. Let them participate.
Then make sure an adult is still doing the cleaning their teeth need.
Children can be involved in toothbrushing long before they’re able to do it effectively on their own. That’s the balance we’re aiming for.

Important
Always supervise babies and young children when using training toothbrushes. Follow the manufacturer’s age, assembly and safety instructions for each stage.
Inspect brushes regularly and replace them if damaged or worn.
Training toothbrushes do not replace effective caregiver-assisted toothbrushing. In Australia, teeth should be cleaned from the time the first tooth appears using a small, soft-bristled toothbrush.
General Australian guidance recommends brushing with water for children under 18 months unless otherwise advised by a dental professional. From 18 months to 6 years, a pea-sized amount of low-fluoride children’s toothpaste is generally recommended, unless individual dental advice differs.
Children continue to need help cleaning their teeth well beyond the toddler years.
