The Lil’ Kooee Lil’Nana Teether is a playful banana-shaped teether designed for sore gums, busy little hands and babies who love to explore with their mouths.

Made from soft, food-grade silicone, the Lil’Nana features flexible bristles that provide an interesting texture for the lips, tongue and gums to discover. Its easy-to-grasp shape also gives babies the opportunity to hold it themselves and practise bringing it towards their mouth.

Teething, mouthing and discovering

A teether doesn’t need to be something a baby simply bites when their gums hurt.

Turn it around. Feel the bristles. Chew the end. Run the tongue over the texture. Hold it in one hand, swap it to the other and inevitably drop it on the floor.

It’s all exploration.

Mouthing gives babies information about an object’s shape, texture, firmness and size, while grasping and bringing it towards the mouth gives them repeated opportunities to coordinate their hands and mouth together.

A playful introduction to bristles

Toothbrushing introduces a very particular sensation inside the mouth.

That doesn’t mean using the Lil’Nana will automatically make toothbrushing easy later on, but it does give babies another opportunity to become familiar with different sensations in and around their mouth.

A feeding therapist’s note

I love watching babies explore things with their mouths because there’s so much learning happening in what looks like very simple play.

They’re discovering texture and shape, practising bringing their hands towards their mouth and experiencing different sensations across their lips, tongue and gums.

The Lil’Nana adds an interesting element because of those little bristles.

I like that babies can explore a brush-like texture on their own terms – holding it themselves, turning it around and deciding where it goes in their mouth.

There’s no need to direct how they use it or insist that they chew the “right” part. Let them explore.

And while it’s tempting to think of every sensory experience as preparation for eating or toothbrushing, sometimes babies are simply learning about their bodies and their world.

That’s valuable too.
