The Maroon Spoon™ has long been a favourite amongst feeding therapists because its bowl is designed specifically with feeding in mind. Unlike many everyday spoons that can be too wide, too deep or simply too large for the person being fed, the Maroon Spoon has a shallow, appropriately sized bowl that makes it easier to present a manageable mouthful and remove food from the spoon.

Both Maroon Spoons measure approximately 14.5 cm in total length, providing a comfortable handle for assisted feeding or grasping.

Small
Bowl measures approximately 3 cm long x 1.2 cm wide.

The narrow bowl is particularly useful for smaller mouths and individuals who benefit from a more petite spoon presentation.

Large
Bowl measures approximately 3.8 cm long x 3 cm wide.

The larger bowl provides more width and capacity while retaining the purposeful proportions of the Maroon Spoon design.

A feeding therapist’s note

This is one of those products that doesn’t look particularly special until you’ve tried feeding with a spoon that’s too big, too wide or too deep.

When I’m choosing a feeding spoon, I’m thinking about more than how much food it holds. I want to consider how comfortably the spoon enters the mouth, how much food is being presented and how easily the person can use their lips to remove that food from the bowl.

For someone who has difficulty with lip closure, oral sensitivities or tongue thrust, those seemingly small details can become particularly important.

The Maroon Spoon is not recommended for individuals with a bite reflex or those who frequently bite down firmly on the spoon.
