ARK’s Textured Bite Tube is a versatile oral motor and sensory chew designed for individuals working on biting and chewing skills, jaw strength and stability, or those who benefit from additional oral sensory input.

The hollow tubes compress and collapse when bitten, providing less resistance than a solid chew tool. This can make the Bite Tube a useful starting point for individuals with limited jaw strength or those beginning structured biting and chewing practice.

Each end offers something different. One features raised bumps, while the other has ribs, providing two distinct textures for additional tactile feedback inside the mouth.

The two ends are also different diameters, allowing biting and chewing to be practised at different jaw heights using the same tool.

And for feeding therapy, the hollow tubes can even be used with puréed food – combining the movement of biting with a small taste when the tube is compressed.

Two ends, two different experiences

Bumps
Raised bumps provide distinct points of tactile input to the mouth during biting, chewing and oral exploration.

Ribs
The ridged surface provides a different type of texture and sensory feedback.

The ends also have different diameters, providing another way to vary the biting experience and work at different jaw heights.

Choose your toughness

Standard – Softest
The softest and easiest level to compress. A good starting point for mild chewing or individuals with very limited jaw strength.

Medium Firm – More resistance
Firmer than Standard while still retaining plenty of chewiness. Provides increased resistance as biting strength develops.

Very Firm – Most resistance
The toughest option, providing the greatest resistance and feedback to the jaw.

A feeding therapist’s note

This is one of those tools where small changes give us lots of different options.

I can change the diameter to alter the jaw height. I can change ends to offer a different texture. I can choose the toughness level to vary the resistance. And because the tubes are hollow, I can introduce a small amount of purée when I want to start connecting biting practice with the experience of food.

When purée is placed inside the hollow tube – which can be frozen for an icy treat – biting down can release a small taste. I particularly like this feature when we’re ready to make biting practice a little more functional and food-based.

The hollow design also means the tube compresses more readily than a solid chew, making it a useful option when I’m looking for less resistance or working with someone who has limited jaw strength.

No chew tool is indestructible. Always supervise use, regularly inspect the Bite Tube for signs of wear or damage, and replace when necessary.
